Import / Restore a Wallet

Use this guide if you are moving to a new phone, reinstalling the app, setting up the Chrome extension, or recovering access after a device loss. You will restore your wallet using your existing 12-word seed phrase.

Before you begin

Import in a secure location

Ensure you are entering your seed phrase in a private, secure location. Never import a wallet on a shared computer, public device, or any device you do not trust. Malware or shoulder-surfers can capture your seed phrase and steal your funds.

Step-by-step

1. Open Moi Wallet and choose Import Wallet

Open the Moi Wallet mobile app or Chrome extension and tap or click Import Wallet.

2. Enter your 12-word seed phrase

Type your seed phrase in the correct order. Depending on the screen, you may enter each word in its own field or paste the full phrase into a single text area.

  • Use the exact words from your backup — spelling and order matter.
  • All 12 words must come from the BIP-39 wordlist.

3. Set a new local password

Enter a password to encrypt your wallet data on this device.

  • This can be a new password — it does not need to match the password on your previous device.
  • The password is local only and is never transmitted to any server.
  • Use at least 8 characters. A longer password with mixed case, numbers, and symbols is strongly recommended.
  • Tap or click Create password to finish restoring the wallet locally.

4. Enable biometric unlock (mobile app only)

On the mobile app, if your device has biometrics enabled in system settings (Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint), Moi Wallet prompts you immediately after password setup:

Would you like to use biometrics to unlock your wallet?

If you accept, you can unlock the wallet with biometrics on future opens instead of typing your password each time. This is optional — you can decline and continue using your password only. Biometrics do not replace your seed phrase or password for wallet recovery.

The Chrome extension does not offer this prompt during import.

5. Wallet import complete

After password setup (and the optional biometric prompt on mobile), you see a confirmation that your wallet was imported successfully. Tap or click Let's go! to continue.

6. Attach your account

Next, Moi Wallet walks you through Attach Account. You enter an account name, review the derived account details, and confirm to attach the account to your wallet.

Password vs seed phrase

The password you set during import only protects wallet data on this device. It is not your wallet credential.

Your seed phrase is the actual key to your funds on the blockchain. Anyone with your seed phrase can access your wallet regardless of your local password. Keep your seed phrase backup secure at all times.
