Create a New Wallet

This guide walks you through creating a brand-new Moi Wallet from scratch. You will generate a 12-word seed phrase — the master key to your wallet. Read every step carefully before proceeding.

Before you begin

  • Choose a private, secure location — never create a wallet on a shared or compromised device.
  • Have pen and paper ready to write down your seed phrase. Do not use a screenshot, photo, or digital note.

Step-by-step

1. Open Moi Wallet and choose Create Wallet

Open the Moi Wallet mobile app or Chrome extension and tap or click Create Wallet.

2. Your seed phrase is generated

Moi Wallet generates a 12-word seed phrase and displays it once.

Your seed phrase is the master key to your entire wallet. It is derived using the BIP-39 standard — an industry-wide format where 12 words from a fixed 2,048-word list represent the cryptographic root of your wallet. Every account and key in your wallet is derived from this single phrase.

Seed phrase warning

Anyone with access to your seed phrase can steal all your funds — permanently and irreversibly. Moi Wallet and its developers have no ability to recover your funds if your seed phrase is lost or compromised.

3. Write down your seed phrase

Write all 12 words on paper in the exact order shown.

  • Store the paper somewhere physically safe — a locked drawer, safe, or other secure location.
  • Never screenshot or photograph your seed phrase.
  • Never store it in plain text in email, cloud storage, notes apps, or messaging apps.
  • Never share it with anyone — including people claiming to be Moi Wallet or Sarva Labs support.

4. Confirm your seed phrase

To verify you wrote it down correctly, Moi Wallet asks you to re-enter the seed phrase words in the correct order. You must complete this step before you can set your password and finish wallet creation.

5. Set a strong password

After you confirm your seed phrase, enter a password to protect your wallet on this device.

  • The password is local only — it encrypts your wallet data on your phone or browser and is never sent to any server.
  • Use at least 8 characters. A longer password with mixed case, numbers, and symbols is strongly recommended.
  • You will need this password every time you unlock the wallet (unless you enable biometric unlock on mobile — see the next step).

6. Enable biometric unlock (mobile app only)

On the mobile app, if your device has biometrics enabled in system settings (Face ID, Touch ID, or fingerprint), Moi Wallet prompts you after password setup:

Would you like to use biometrics to unlock your wallet?

If you accept, you can unlock the wallet with biometrics on future opens instead of typing your password each time. This is optional — you can decline and continue using your password only. Biometrics do not replace your seed phrase or password for wallet recovery.

7. Wallet creation complete

Once password setup is complete, your wallet is ready. You will be guided through Attach Account and Register Account before you can send assets or connect to DApps.

FAQ

Can I change my seed phrase?

No. The seed phrase is generated once at wallet creation and cannot be changed. If you want a new seed phrase, you must create a new wallet and transfer your assets to it.

What if I lose my seed phrase?

Your wallet cannot be recovered. Moi Wallet has no copy of your seed phrase and cannot restore access. Always keep a secure backup before storing significant funds.

Is the password the same as the seed phrase?

No. The password only protects the wallet on this device. The seed phrase is the actual credential that controls your funds on the blockchain. If you forget your password, you can reset the local wallet and re-import using your seed phrase. See Security Settings.
